The Jewell 

“The Jewell” is named after Jewell Powell-Matthews who was the matriarch and last surviving sibling of the 12 Powell children, many living in the house their entire lives. We purchased the Powell–Matthews house in 2006 from our local Historic Society.  They acquired it from descendants of the Powell family in hopes of saving this great house after years of neglect. We spent 10 years traveling back and forth from our home in Florida lovingly restoring The Jewell, determined to bring her back to the beauty she once was. We moved here full time in 2015 and now call this home.  It is a work in progress but we are pleased with the strides we have made to date. Located in the heart of the Vienna’s historic district, we are honored to be only the 2nd family to call this circa 1895, 4300 square foot, Mid-Victorian our home. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Homes this Timeless Classic features 6 Fire Places, 12’ Ceilings, a Grand Staircase and Hardwood Oak Floors throughout. It has 6 Bedrooms with Private Bathrooms, a Parlor, a Family Room,  the Kitchen, the Dinning Room, a large Foyer, a Powder Room, an Office, a Laundry Room and a 45' x 9' Main Hall.  They are all decorated with 100’s of period antiques and beautiful reproductions all of which reflect the Victorian era of the house.  One guest commented that she actually had to take a seat in each room in order to truly take in all of the Antiques we have incorporated into the décor or the house.  Like most large century old houses we have a wrap-around porch with rocking chairs and of course a porch swing. There is ample Private Parking and there is even room for a Camper or Motor Home.  The areas surrounding the house are yours to enjoy and we hope you will.  There is a lot of exterior seating located around the yard so that you can relax and enjoy Mother Natures Beauty.   The Grounds boast dozens of trees like Magnolia, Crepe Myrtle, Pecan, Oak, Pine and Dogwood which not only provide lots of shade but also beautiful foliage depending on the time of year. And if you're here in November you can pick up all the Pecans your suitcase can hold...  An abundance of beautiful flowers like Roses, Tulips, Azaleas, Milkweed and Wisteria when in bloom often take your breath away. Multiple Bird Houses and Feeders attract an array of fowl like Hummingbirds, Cardinals, Blue Jays, Doves and Finches. And finally there is a 3 level Koi pond, filled with fish who love to be fed, located in a fenced area at the rear of the house.  We have placed loungers there for you to just relax or maybe take a nap to the sound of the running water from the waterfall. We want you to have the freedom you have just like when you're at home. Come relax and enjoy our whole property, not just your room.
